Want to have a Sunnah Nikah and follow the footsteps of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? Looking for how an Islamic marriage should be according to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah?

Marriage in Islam is an act of ibadah and is a major step to the new journey in one’s life. It is a solemn contract between the bride and groom and about completing half of the Deen. Marriage in Islam should be done with accordance to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, rather following the customs and traditions of society. Our Beloved prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) guided us with regards to the marriage in Islam and encouraged us in making it easy, announcing it openly, expressing happiness on this blessed occasion, arranging a  wedding feast and inviting family and relatives to it.

The basic concept of an Islamic Marriage is to keep it “Easy and Simple”, without any extravagance.  Our Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

“The most blessed nikah is the one with the least expenses.” [Bayhaqi]

Also, Allah has said in the Quran (interpretation of the meaning):

“And waste not by extravagance. Verily, He likes not Al-Musrifun (those who waste by extravagance).” (Quran, 6:141).

It is mustahabb to do the marriage contract in masjid keeping the marriage simple. Have a wedding feast (Walima), it is a confirmed Sunnah and a way of announcing the Islamic Marriage and expressing happiness on the occasion.

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) said to ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf when he got married: “Give a feast even if it is with just one sheep.”

Give the women their Mahr (dowry), it is the right of the women in Islam.

As said in the Quran (interpretation of the meaning): “And give to the women (whom you marry) their mahr (obligatory bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) with a good heart…” [Al-Nisaa’ 4:4]

Dear brother and sister in Islam, reflect on the above points. Do you really think that there will be Allah’s blessing in the start of your this journey by being disobedient to His commandments? Certainly not.

In order to have a blessed Islamic Marriage we need to follow the guidance from the Quran and Sunnah and should abandon the un-Islamic customs and traditions of the society.

Have an Islamic Marriage. Make it blessed, make it Halal
